This joint major provides a strong base to those students who intend to pursue further studies at the graduate level in the field of Economics. Students seeking admission to a graduate programme have a higher chance of getting admitted to top ranked schools if they have taken Mathematics courses like Calculus, Real Analysis, and Linear Algebra during their undergraduate programme.
The LUMS BSc (Honours) Anthropology and Sociology programme ensures that students get a strong disciplinary foundation with a grounding in theory and methods, along with a choice of courses that will allow them to pursue more specialised interests during the course of the programme.
The Political Science major at LUMS introduces students to various aspects of the discipline including theoretical debates, methodological innovations and empirical developments with a focus on area studies. The discipline of Political Science is traditionally divided into four major sub-fields: Political Theory, Comparative Politics, International Relations (IR) and Political Sociology.
The BSc (Honours) Politics and Economics degree provides a strong base to those who intend to have knowledge of the political economy. Offered through Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), the programme encourages students to examine the globalising world using a variety of conceptual lenses supplied by the social sciences, learn multiple ways of solving problems, and explore areas of inquiry that intersect traditional disciplines.
The LUMS BSc (Honours) Economics degree equips students with analytical and quantitative skills that are widely applicable across many professional disciplines.
The LUMS BA (Honours) History degree enables students to appreciate how narratives are created. Over the course of the programme, students will probe issues such as: What are the extant sources on which we base a claim to knowledge? Where is this information archived? Is there more than one way of reading a historical document? Do different readings contribute to multiple discourses? Are these discourses complementary or irreconcilable? These are thorny debates that explicitly or otherwise influence most disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The BA (Honours) English programme offers students individualised access to excellent teaching on Greek, British, American and world Anglophone literatures with a view to training students in methods of contextual reading, critical thinking and writing.
The Economics and Mathematics joint major provides a strong base to those students who intend to pursue further studies at the graduate level in the field of Economics. Students seeking admission to a graduate programme have a higher chance of getting admitted to top ranked schools if they have taken mathematics courses like calculus, analysis, and linear algebra during their undergraduate degree programme.
Physics is the study of our universe, and its scope ranges from subatomic particles to cosmological scales. Physicists today continue a scientific tradition based on centuries of human inquiry grounded in experiment, mathematical reasoning, imagination and observation. The Department of Physics at LUMS hosts a rigorous undergraduate programme that trains our students in all core areas of contemporary Physics and aims to make them versatile critical thinkers, ready to tackle 21st century challenges.
The Mathematics major explores the world of pattern, order, and relationship that is the foundation of both mathematical structures and all of the physical sciences. The major covers areas of both Applied and Pure Mathematics. The focus of research in Pure Mathematics will be in Algebraic Geometry and Operator Theory, while in Applied Mathematics the emphasis will be on Scientific Computation, Mathematical Biology, Quantitative Finance, and Symmetry Methods. The senior project gives an opportunity for students to pursue a project of their own particular interest.
