Overview

The LUMS MBA programme is a critical amalgamation of relevant theory and rigorous practice.

It develops global business leaders who can provide leadership at any level in an increasingly global economy. The curriculum teaches students the underlying disciplines of management and provides graduates the flexibility to pursue careers in a variety of industries across geographical and functional boundaries.

Coming from  varying educational, cultural and geographical backgrounds adds to the rich experience and provides access to innumerable opportunities that develop a well-rounded skillset critical to the dynamic business milieu. The case method pedagogy cultivates leaders that are fully prepared to solve problems and face challenges across local and global contexts. 

* The medium of instruction at LUMS is English for all degree programmes offered. Assessments are accepted in English only.

Structure

The programme structure is extremely thorough and experiential learning stands atop every course, module or exercise. Intensive teaching, hands-on experience and a fully accredited degree makes it one of the most sought after business degrees.

Academics

Summer Orientation Programme (SOP)

LUMS MBA attracts students from diverse professional and geographic backgrounds. SOP is aimed at developing a sound knowledge base for students that helps them perform exceptionally well when they enter the rigorous two-year programme. This exhaustive overview orientates students with the business school and its facilities and helps them become an active participant of the LUMS student community. SOP eases the transitional stage of students into the regular MBA by providing fundamental skill enhancement modules in communication, business mathematics, accounting, computer applications and statistics. It aids develop interpersonal skills, learnt from class mates and eventually prepare them for extensive teamwork.

Year I | Core Courses

The Year I core courses are designed to teach concepts that provide the foundation of general management education. From fundamental management courses to decision modeling and financial reporting, to analytical and critical thinking, to driving economic development of an organisation with ethics and social responsibility, these diverse courses build intellectual capital and produce graduates who are ready for today’s competitive business landscape.

Summer Internship

This is a mandatory project-based internship of at least 6 weeks between the first and the second year. It offers a working platform to reinforce the skills learnt during the first year into an actual business environment and drive meaningful change. . . Students gain hands-on experience of managing real life business challenges under the mentorship of top executives. They also build valuable professional connections that help them later in many ways, including permanent placements .

Year II

In year II, the students select from a wide range of electives offered in multiple disciplines. They choose courses that complement their passions and interests while well aligned with the current business requirements. , and leverage a unique experience relevant to their professional goals. Such a mix of general management and specialist courses through the two years makes our graduates truly versatile and ideal candidates for careers across a range of functions and industries.

These elective streams include Finance, Organisational Behaviour/Human Resources, Marketing and IT/Operations.

Experiential Learning

LUMS MBA programme is at par with global MBA models. An essential part of our programme is to facilitate an environment for students where they are prepared to work on real business problems.

Students work with faculty and mentors to apply their learnings to business issues and derive analytical insights. This done by using on-field learning exercises in synergy with case based teaching, that draws from both local and global business scenarios . Students use concepts learnt in class and apply them in interactive exercises through industry engagement, entrepreneurial drills and consultancy projects.

These experiential components comprise of mainly three modules.

Module I

Module I comprises of an Industry Diagnostic Exercise. This module helps students understand and analyse a selected industry and its market dynamics in detail. Not only do they examine the holistic business environment of the industry and its key players but also analyse current practices, predict future trends and provide strategic recommendations. Additionally, the exercise provides regular opportunities to stay connected with the business world and build relevant networks that go a long way.

Module II

MyStartup is a module exercise where students start off by identifying a business opportunity and analysing the feasibility of that business model. Students gain valuable understanding of a business as a total enterprise by applying theory, practice, experience and talent in one coherently built module. Students accumulate skills critical to an entrepreneurial mind-set, leadership and management. This allows our students to transfer their expertise to any business setting in the future, whether it is starting their own passion project or working for a renowned multinational.

Module III

The two years intensive training culminates into the year-long MBA consultancy project that puts to test all knowledge and skills learnt by the students. This is a highly focused, result oriented exercise where they solve real-life business situations at client organizations.This year long symbioses reaps multiple benefits; it helps organizations analyse their problems with a fresh perspective and derive innovative and cost effective solutions. It also allows students to build strong and effective linkages that often result in quality placements.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility criteria in order to be considered for admission to the Graduate Programme. Meeting this criteria does not guarantee admission to the Graduate program.

Applicants are selected for admission to LUMS MBA programme based on the following factors:

  1. Academic Background
  2. Performance in the Admission Test
  3. Work Experience (strongly preferred)
  4. Two Recommendation letters
  5. Interview 

The Admissions Office will review applications to ensure requirements are being met. Shortlisted candidates will be called in for an interview, after which the final decision will be taken.

Academic Requirements for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria.

  • Successful completion of sixteen years of education leading to a Masters or Bachelor's* degree from a university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

* Candidates holding only a Bachelor's degree of less than four years’ duration will be required to produce an equivalence certificate of 16 years of education issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

Decisions on admission are made after careful evaluation of all applications. Evaluation for interview call is carried out based on a combination of factors such as academic track record, performance in GMAT/GRE (General), and work experience (if available).

  • Applicants completing their last degree by May 15, 2018 are also eligible to apply

Admission Test Requirement for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants are required to take Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in order to be considered for admission. Only GMAT/GRE (General) scores are valid and, hence, applicants with previous LMAT scores need to take the GMAT/GRE (General).

GMAT/GRE (General) is offered as a computer adaptive test worldwide. Apart from official test scores that LUMS will require directly from Pearson or Educational Testing Service (ETS) USA, applicants must submit or mail a copy of the unofficial GMAT/GRE (General) scores as soon as possible after taking the test. The LUMS code for receiving GMAT/GRE (General) scores from Pearson and ETS is 0679. For further details on GMAT and GRE (General), please log on to www.mba.com  and www.ets.org respectively. The deadline to take the GMAT/GRE (General) for Round 1 is February 08, 2018 and for Round 2 is April 05, 2018.

Note:

  • GMAT/GRE (General) taken more than five years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid.
  • If applicant has taken more than one test, the best score will be considered for application evaluation
  • Availability of valid GMAT/GRE (General) score will be mandatory for submission of online admission application
  • Applicants who are admitted to, and join, the MBA programme will get a refund of one GMAT/GRE registration fee.

 

Supporting Documents Requirement for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants must submit complete online application form on or before February 15, 2018 for Round 1 and April 12, 2018 for Round 2; 5:00 pm (Pakistan Standard Time).

The deadline to submit all supporting documents along with the proof of payment of Admission Application Processing Fee in ONE Package is February 16, 2018 for Round 1 and April 13, 2018 for Round 2.

Payment Procedure

International applicants are required to make a payment for the Application Processing Fee through a Bank Draft drawn in favour of Lahore University of Management Sciences. For further details regarding Fee payment options  Click here

Proof of Payment

Applicants are required to send original Bank Draft along with all other required documents as ONE package on or before the stipulated deadline. Applicants must print and paste the “Mailing label” on the envelope containing their supporting documents before sending it to the LUMS Admissions Office.

Interview Performance

A merit ranking for interview short listing is established on academic performance, work experience (if any) and GMAT/GRE (General) scores of the candidates. Only short-listed candidates are called for interviews.

Work Experience

Preference is given to applicants with prior work experience. Evaluation is based on the quantity and quality of the full-time work experience. Candidates are encouraged to acquire work experience of between 1–2 years before applying to the LUMS MBA Programme. This requirement, however, is not mandatory for admission to the MBA Programme.

FAQs

A Foreign national who is not of Pakistani origin and does not have a Pakistani passport/NICOP/CNIC is eligible to apply to LUMS under its International Student Programme. Applicants holding dual nationality out of which one is Pakistani are not eligible to apply through LUMS International Student Programme. 

An online application account can be created through the LUMS website i.e. https://admissions.lums.edu.pk/. To create an online application account with the LUMS Online Application System, you are required to have a valid email address. Please use your Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail account to create your online application account. Applicants are advised to have at least two active email addresses so that in case of any problem with their email account they can still correspond with the LUMS Office of Admissions through their second address. It is advised to create only One Account for the online application submission.

We only accept applications submitted electronically. This allows us to process your application more quickly. It also allows you to keep informed of the status of your application throughout the process by checking it online.

There is no CGPA requirement, minimum 16 years of education is compulsory for applying in MBA.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan is an independent, autonomous, and constitutionally established institution of primary funding, overseeing, regulating, and accrediting the higher education efforts in Pakistan.

HEC is responsible for formulating higher education policy and quality assurance to meet the international standards as well as providing accrediting academic degrees, development of new institutions, and uplift of existing institutions in Pakistan.

An applicant needs to furnish the recommendation letters on LUMS format only available in online admission application in recommendation letter section.

We recommend that at least one should be from a supervisor in your professional career. The other letter can be from a faculty member who has had a reasonable opportunity to evaluate you academically.

Yes, Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score is required for admission to the MBA Programme.

The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is offered year round as a computer adaptive test. You should register for the test at least one month before you plan to take it. You need to complete the GMAT test before you submit the online application. You may submit your application with unofficial score report however, you will need to submit an official GMAT score report to our office before you can matriculate. There is no minimum required score. A high score does not guarantee anyone's acceptance, nor does a low score preclude it as there is no minimum score required. There is no minimum required score. You can submit your application with any score you have. 

GMAT/GRE scores are valid for five years. GMAT/GRE taken five years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid.

The GMAT bulletins are available at the American Centers in all major cities. Details regarding registration are given in the bulletin or www.mba.com.

Details regarding GRE registration can be checked on www.ets.org.

There is no preference in taking GMAT or GRE, however your best scores will be considered in case you have attempted both tests.

GMAT/GRE score is compulsory for submission of online application. You must submit/mail the copy of unofficial GMAT/GRE score report as soon as you take the test. However, the official GMAT/GRE scores can be submitted later.

Yes, you can apply. Preference is given to people who have some work experience of 1 year at least. Candidates having an exceptional academic track record complemented by a very high GMAT/GRE score with the experience of a few internships are also considered for admission.

A merit ranking for interview short listing is established on academic performance, work experience (if any) and admission test score of the candidates. Those who qualify this comparative ranking are called for interview. The interview is a key indicator of the potential of MBA candidates to become worthy professional managers. During the interview the Admissions Committee tries to assess the applicant's communication skills, managerial potential, thinking ability, subject knowledge and level of awareness of general issues. Final decision regarding admission is taken after the interview.

LUMS provides a well-maintained residential environment for students. The atmosphere provided encourages learning, respects and appreciates individual differences and promotes a sense of community.

While the Residential Colleges focus on enriching student lives by organizing extra-curricular activities and fostering informal interaction with faculty members, the Housing Office oversees the activities of the Residential Colleges and deals with all aspects of on-campus residence, including student housing, accommodation, repairs and maintenance. The Housing Office staff ensures that students are safe, comfortable and enjoy their on-campus residence.

Transfer of credits from another programme to the LUMS MBA Programme is not allowed. All admitted students regardless of having an advanced degree will begin the programme as a first year student.

Over the years LUMS graduates have established themselves as highly marketable individuals with a diverse set of relevant skills. Our MBA graduates are adequately skilled for both the professional environment as well as undertaking entrepreneurial ventures. Our students are recruited by some of the leading organizations all over the world. They are offered excellent positions and normally at prominent salaries.

Given the structure of the curriculum we only offer fall admission.

A mailing label has especially been designed for your convenience as it bears not only your name, tracking/application ID, schools applied to but also a complete address for correspondence. After the successful submission of your application form you will be able to print the mailing label. The LUMS Admissions Office will only accept a package that contains the “Mailing Label”.

 

Admission decision will be communicated through courier service; however, you can also check your application status through your online account. Regretfully, we are unable to provide information regarding the application status by telephone or email.

You need to send us your supporting documents on or before deadline, it might take a day or so in reaching LUMS that will be acceptable for us.

The admission process is a well deliberated and thorough process. Each year we receive a large number of outstanding applications. Unfortunately, all of them do not qualify because of the limited number of available seats. The decision regarding admission is final. If your application is unsuccessful you will also receive a letter informing you of this. Due to the volume of applications the University receive; it is not possible to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.
